According to a monthly analysis of global temperatures by scientists at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies July 2016 was the warmest July in 136 years of record keeping. July 2016 was also warmer then any other month recorded. July 2016 was only 0.1 degrees celsius warmer then other warm Julys. It also appears that 2016 will be the hottest year on record. The monthly analysis by the GISS team was put together from worldwide available data acquired by about 6,300 meteorological stations around the planet. Different types of instruments measuring sea surface temperature, and Antarctic research stations. The global temperature record started around 1880 because previous observations didn't cover enough of earth.
I find this issue of particular importance because high temperatures like this can be dangerous for the environment. Heat waves can be dangerous, causing illness such as heat cramps and heat stroke, or even death. So if people keep adding greenhouse gases into the atmosphere at the current rate they are the temperatures in the world will just continue to increase.
